I have just setup an Exchang 2007 server, I am publishing it through ISA 2006. I am getting a request for a client certificate from remote workstations when they access OWA. "Choose a digital certificate".

I have checked all of the settings in IIS. As far as I can tell everything is set to Ignore Client Certificate. I have checked my Web Listener and it does not require a client Certificate in the advanced authentication options. I am using Forms based Authentication on the listener and Basic for OWA on the Exchange Server.

I think it is in the ISA server because computers that are local on the network are not presented with the "Choose a digital certificate" dialog.

What have I messed up?

Once again I have solved my own problem.

I have a Web Publising Rule for OWA, Outlook Anywhere and ActiveSync.
I am using the same listener on all, as in the 7 part Tom S. How to.

I checked the listener and it did not have require SSL client certificate checked in the Advanced Auth Options. I did not know that there was another check box to require SSL Clent Certificat on the Traffic tab.
I did not have it checked on my OWA Rule but it was checked on the Outlook Anywhere Rule. When i removed the check the problem went away.

I guess any request like that would apply to any rule using the same listener (same protocols, ports and IPs) no matter what rule it was applied to.
Perhaps I could have reordered the rules to fix it as well if I actually needed the SSL cert on one of the rules.
