I recently downloaded ISA Enterprise Eval. At first I got bogged down by "The Specified Computer Name is Invalid" errors but I triumphed over them. Now I am stopped dead in my tracks by "The Network Path was not found" errors when I try to execute <ISA Server Enterprise Initialization> for the purpose of schema update. I stored the downloaded file to C:\ and executed it. It created a folder "C:\ISA Server Enterprise CD". From there I ran "ISAAutorun.exe". My server has 2 NICs, one internal connected to my internal LAN 192.168.0.X and one external which is Internet valid IP number given by my ISP. Also, can I run DNS on my ISA server? This is a test environment... Any help is greatly welcome! Thanx in advance... Kiran Rao [This message has been edited by Chipsy (edited 20 March 2001).]

Run the schema update on a domain controller not the ISA box. If you still have trouble make sure that schema modification is enabled.. 1. Open the Active Directory Schema console in MMC. 2. Right-click Active Directory Schema (Manager), and select Operations Master. 3. Select The Schema may be modified on this server check box, and then click OK. The value of the The Schema may be modified on this server check box is stored in the registry in the Schema Update Allowed entry (in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NTDS\Parameters). Active Directory adds this entry to the registry when you use the Active Directory Schema console to change the default value. Hope this helps! Due to hardware limitation (this is my home lab) I am trying to install ISA Server on my primary server which is Windows 2000 Advanced Server acting as my Domain Controller and also running IIS. At this point I have become aware I need to change the IIS http port to something else than 80. I was wondering if I am allowed to run IIS and ISA on the same Windows 2000 Server box which is also the DC...

You can run everything on the same box if you want.. Imagine Small Business Server... There is a detailed "white paper" on this site that explains the issues with IIS and ISA. In general, though, this is an annoying part about hmmm well any application firewall. You are going to have the same problem with... SMTP, Terminal Services, any other service where you are using it on the ISA box as well. There are fixes for all of them but in general its a lot simpler if your ISA box just doesnt do anything else..... Good tip though.. Next time you have a service that just doesn't work.. Check the application event log. ISA is real good about reporting a conflict between a listener and some other service that is already using that port (IIS's HTTP or SMTP service for instance).... ------------------ Jeff Tabian Senior Network Analyst - MCSE+I, MCT, MCDBA, CNE, CCNA, CCA Sentinel Technologies

OK The error I originally reported - "Network Path Was Not Found" - had nothing to do with ISA Server Setup. Turns out my Windows 2000 Advanced Server installation was screwed (which is no surprise considering how much I play with it). I reinstalled W2K Server and now the installation of ISA went smoother than a baby's butt... Thanx for the help all... Kiran
