"Outlook just works" not working behind Linksys wireless router.

Is there something I've missed? The same laptop was able to access a Domino server directly in this same topology.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Oliver

Is the mail server Exchange Server?

What method of access are you uing to connect to the mail server? POP/SMTP? MAPI? RPC over HTTP?

Not to be too rude, but the quality of a reply you receive is directly proportional to the quality of your post. You aren't providing too many details about the scenario - high level information gets you nowhere fast.

Sorry for being obtuse. I was referring to the "Outlook just works" article in the Shinder section. Please see below for more info:

Server = Exchange 2003, ISA server 2004
Client is configured with a HOSTS file pointing the internal name of the Exchange server to the external IP address of the ISA server(as per the Shinder Section instructions).

This configuration is working for everyone else, just not this guy.

I've uninstalled and disabled any firewall apps on the laptop trying to access. If we configure access via VPN, Outlook connects properly.

The issue is the RPC communication leaving the laptop, I believe getting stuck at the linksys, then being received at ISA.

Thanks for the help.

Oliver

In the Monitoring\Logging node of the ISA console, add an entry for Client IP Equals %LinksysExternalIP% (assuming its NATing) and see what ISA logs when the client connects.

Hi Clint,

I've added the filter as you suggested, but I don't see anything. To test this, I added a filter on ISA for an external Netscreen IP that I have, configured my computer to use the Netscreen as my gateway to the internet, then configure my Outlook to use the same ISA external interface as the client that I'm having problems with. This should have effectively duplicated the scenario. But i don't see any logs. I'm new to ISA 2004 so I may have missed something here...

Thanks much,
Oliver

After further testing, the problem seems to lie behind all wireless routers...

I've tried connecting via secure rpc from behind several Linksys, Netgear, and a D-Link wireless routers with no success. I've upgraded firmware, tried all kinds of settings on the routers like Port-Triggering, changing MTUs, etc... no luck.

If I try and connect from behind my cheap DSL/Ethernet router at home, no problems.

I'm somewhat perplexed, so any ideas would be very much appreciated at this point.

In response to Clint's suggestion about filtering, for client IP, I can't seem to see any logs to filter... what did I forget to configure?

Thanks for the help,
Oliver
