Hi, a while ago I am not able to remote access the ISA 2004 server via MSTSC. On the client side I am getting an error message: This computer can't connect to the remote computer... on the ISA logging I am getting the following information:

Closed Connection
ISA 15.05.2007 20:55:02

Log type: Firewall service

Status: A connection was abortively closed after one of the peers sent a RST segment.

Rule: RDP Internal

Source: Internal ( 192.168.0.13:3240)

Destination: Local Host ( 192.168.0.249:3389)

Protocol: RDP (Terminal Services) Server

User:

Additional information

Number of bytes sent: 48 Number of bytes received: 40
Processing time: 0ms Original Client IP: 192.168.0.13
Client agent:
It used to work, but I installed an ISA SP, since then I have the problems.

I have enabled and added the computer 192.168.0.13 in the ISA system policy editor (Remote Management/Terminal Server). I then even added a publishing rule for the ISA server (RDP from internal to ISA), but still no success...

Any ideas?

Kind regards
Tom

Hi Tom,

Where is the RDP client?

Where is the ISA Firewall?

Where is the RDP server?

Thanks!
Tom

Hi Tom,

This is the same problem I am having so I decided to post here.

The RDP client is any internal machine.  (192.168.10.xxx)

ISA Firewall is position behind a router (192.168.11.xxx) and one nic is to the internet (192.168.11.xxx) and the second nice is the interal network (192.168.10.xxx)

As for the RDP server I do not have one setup.  I am on connecting to servers to do remote administration.

Thanks!

Wait a minute! The source and destination are on the same network ID. What's up with that?

    Tom

I'm seeing something similar on access and server publishing rules ever since I installed SP3 on my ISA2004 Ent server.  For example, I have county crisis workers in the school district that use a Citrix based connection over HTTPS.  The end users are Web Proxy clients but even as SNAT the situation is the same which is after an inconsistent amount of time the end user receives a message indicating their connection has been interrupted.  Watching the ISA monitor I see "a connection was abortively closed after one of the peers sent a RST".  I've excluded the destination IP's and domains in the Web Proxy bypass list but that didn't help.

Would you please query the listening ports on your ISA machine by typing netstat  -an from a command prompt and post your result here?

    Thanks -

I ran that but its a LOT of information to try posting here.  I ported it to a text file if there's a way for me to get that to you.

Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I am having the exact same symptoms and have checked all rules and can't find anything wrong. Its stopped working after I migrated the server installation to new hardware.

Can you say what the problem is? The previous poster had some issues with ISA firewall network configuration, since the source and destination were on the same network ID.
