Hi
I have an issue with loadbalncing on the external interface of my ISA array.

Environment:
ISA 2006 Enterprise Edition with on configuration server and one (a second to be added later) ISA server in the array. The ISA server have 3 NIC's in it connected as follows.

Internal (LAN): 172.190.x.x subnet

External (DMZ): 192.168.250.x subnet

Intra-Array: 192.168.100.x subnet

In additon there is a hadware firewall outside the 192.168.250.x subnet that provides NATing to the internet.

The internal interface (172.190.x.x subnet) has network loadbalancing enbled and is working the way it should. However when I try to enable netwook load balancing on the External (DMZ interface, 192.168.250.x) I get an error (See below) in the event log and network load balancing status changes changes to stopped.

Event log entry:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Microsoft Firewall
Event Category: None
Event ID: 21113
Date:  03/11/2006
Time:  11:18:00
User:  N/A
Computer: ISA1
Description:
There is no suitable network adapter related to network 'External'. Network Load Balancing cannot be configured properly, and will be stopped on this server. A suitable network adapter must have a static IP address that belongs to the network and is different than the cluster Virtual IP address.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

At this stage no traffic will flow through the external interface, and there are alerts in ISA complaining that there is no route through the adapter and that I should add it to the Array network. However I can't add it to the External Network as there is no option for that. I've tested it in a lab using different ranges and that works. Is there a limitation on using 192.168.x.x on the external interface and load balancing it? Any other suggestions as to what I can try?

Best regards,

Digitus

Hi Digitus,

Nope, no problem with 192.x.x.x networks.

You've got a typo or some other problem that is creating this issue.

Tom
