Hi guys,

I have a weird problem. I recently upgraded my ISA server from 2000 to 2004 and installed SP2. All went well, Internet access and Exchange servers are running beautifully, but I have a problem with the 2004 FWC. I dont run authentication on the ISA box and I dont allow WPC, I limit access to FWC clients. After the upgrade all users that had the 2000 client could access the Internet without a problem, but, when I attempt to uninstall the 2000 FWC and install the 2004 FWC the user gets no access, no Internet, no email, nothing. So at first I thought it was a configuration issue with the ISA 2004 box, after installing a couple of new computers for new employees, I attempted to install the 2004 FWC and bingo, they can access the Internet without a problem using the 2004 FWC. I have tested this and tested this on multiple computers and the same thing happens. Those that were running the 2000 FWC no longer get Internet access once that client is uninstalled and the 2004 FWC is installed, but on all new systems or systems that have not had the 2000 FWC installed, the 2004 FWC works. If I uninstall the 2004 FWC and reinstall the 2000 FWC, the user gets access again.

Any ideas?

Where are you installing the 2K4 FWC from?  Have you applied the SP to the installation point share?
When uninstalling the 2000 FWC, are you rebooting before installing 2K4?

I am installing the client from the ISA share. I uninstall the 2000 client, reboot, install the 2004 client, reboot once more but no access is available. So I uninstall the 2004 client, reboot, install the 2000 client, reboot, and WHAMMO! Access.... I dont understand what you mean by applying the service pack to the share though, how do I do that? I installed SP2 on the ISA server but that is as far as I went with the update. Everything else works fantastically.

Just to clarify, on a computer that hasn't had the client installed before, the 2004 client works perfectly. The weird thing is that the clients that have been upgraded to the 2004 client can see the server. When a click the "Test Server" button it immediately returns with the correct ISA server connection, but no access is available. Internet access is still available through the browser with the proxy information entered into Internet Options, but once I uncheck the Proxy Server checkbox, no access. I have searched and searched through the MS KB but I can't find anything on this. It is doubly frustrating because it happens with every single client that runs the legacy client. It would be easier for me to troubleshoot if it was just one or two! But this is obviously some kind of interaction between the old client and the new. Registry settings, legacy files, something....
