Hi,

I would like to see ISA allow an admin to do proper port forwarding and protocol routing.

Regards

Lionel

Hi Tom, I suppose I should have qualified my statement further:

It does do port forwarding through the publishing rules but you are limited as to which ports you can publish, obviously Microsoft have decided to lock down certain protocols as added security but an Admin should have the freedom to chose whichever port he wants to publish, this all came about as I am unable to publish port 389 (LDAP) for external access and it is highly frustrating, maybe I am wrong in this but would appreciate it if you could clarify it for me if I am.

Cheers

Lionel

Yes ISA comes with predifend ports but you can create your own definitions. Are you using the non-web server publishing wizard? If so in the wizard you can create new definitions and how it should handle the requests. Like listen on port 389 but forward to 386 if you want.

Have you read toms' book it gives a good understanding and a must to have.

Hi Lional,

You can publish TCP or UDP 389 if you like. You can use the built in LDAP protocols or create your own if you don't want someone else doing the work for you

You can create your own protocols, and then you can even tweak the source and destination ports after that  --- there's a ton of flexibilty in the ISA Firewall!

HTH,
Tom
