Hi all,

What happens if you have 2 ISA's both with WPAD enabled on the same LAN?

I have 2 seperate sites connected with an MPLS network. I have 1 ISA at each site and would quite like to load share in some way however if the MPLS breaks, I need the users to still have internet access to their local ISA ... hence the 2 WPAD files broadcasting on the same LAN.

The ISA's are simply working as a forward Proxies for internet access.

Any pointers much appreciated.

Hi

ISA Server WPAD files will not be able to help you with this one. ISA SE is very limited in what you can do with WPAD files. ISA EE can do a lot more, although to come close to the functionality you require you would need a single array spanning both sites, which is another issue entirely.

You could take a copy of a WPAD file from an EE array that has 2 nodes and place it on a web server at each location. Then modify each file to include the two actual ISA server names and also include a backup route for the browser to use the local ISA server only.

This isn't all to easy and may not exactly give you the desired result but it may be a good starting point.
