I have Exchange 2003 on the LAN with ISA 2004 in the DMZ. I had trouble with certificates but I got that ironed out and OWA was working (using FBA). Imust have changed something while I was trying to fix other porblems and now when I try to connect to OWA I get Error code: 500 Internal server Error. Internet control Message Potocol (ICMP) network is unreachable. Any Ideas? Dave Miller.

Hi Dk,

Can you provide some details on your config?

What is the IP addressing information on the ISA firewall's interfaces?

What are the details of the Web Publishing Rule?

Thanks!
Tom

Tom, The ISA server sits on the DMZ with an external IP using Sprint's DNS servers and the appropriate default gateway. The internal IP is 192.168.200.45/24 internal DNS no default gateway. I tried to use an a different name for external OWA access but ran into problems with certificates and the 500 error "target principal name is incorrect" so I registered our internal domain name and created a dns entry on an external DNS server, changed my certs to match the actual name of the exchange server, intalled on the EXchange server, and imported the cert to the ISA, and it worked like a charm. I was able to use OWA with FBA (on the ISA only of course). I began working on the next hurdle publishing RPC, and when I checked back later the OWA was no longer working. Now I get the slightly different 500 error that says "Error Code : 500 Internal server error. Internet Control Message protocol (ICMP) network is unreachable. For maore information on this event, see ISA server Help. (10051)". I have since unloaded and reloaded ISA twice trying different settings. i read an article of your saying that the Exchange did not have to be a SecureNAT client (if you specify that all requests come from the ISA server rather than the original client), so I tried that (that didn't work at all, the the login screen just kept reappearing)nothing seems to help. I have ordered your book, and I have scoured the internet looking for articles. I have followed your artcle for publishing OWA and the Technet article.

Hi Tom, I don't know why my last post repeated itself, however i have tried some different things and I wanted to post them to see if anyone could help. I have uninstalled and reinstalled ISA 2004. I start off with publishing OWA. I use the FQDN of this exchange server and create a listener called OWA that uses FBA select HTTPS only and provide the certificate. It works fine. I back up my configuration so if anything goes wrong I can restore from here. I Publish SMTP server and everything works. I back up again. (my goal is to publish OWA, RPC, pop3(ON PORT 995). I create the outbound SMTP rule and everything works great. I back up. I publish the secure POP3 on 995 and now OWA gives me the 500 error I mentioned in the last post "ICMP network unreachable". So I try to restore to any of the earlier points but continue to get the same 500 error from OWA. the only way I have found to fix is to uninstall and reinstall. I was origanally going to use POP3 because I have some computers that report errors via email and can't be MAPI clients. I may not have to use the POP3 since the computers only send they don't recieve. I also have at least one user account that I wouldn't necessarily want to have access to the global address list (so POP3 comes to mind). Is this normall behavior for ISA? Shouldn't I be able to restore to an earlier point without having to reload? Thanks for taking the time! Dave Miller.
