Does anyone know if ALTIGEN VOIP, H323, works with ISA Server 2004 (Standard)? I tried unsuccessfully to get to work on ISA 2000 a couple of years ago and then later I was told I had to bypass ISA to get it to work. Is ISA 2004 any better as far as Altigen VOIP and has anyone managed to get it to work?

Yes, you can do it on both ISA 2k and ISA 2k4, std or ent. The secret is to know what ports to publish. The Alti-IP 600 manual tells you what ports to publish on page 26. http://www.altigen.com/system_manuals/5-0/Alti-IP_600_Manual.pdf On ISA 2K, this is a pain in the you know what because you have to create a protocol rule for each port rather than for a range. It takes a persistent/desperate person to do this, but I did it so you could if you wanted to. Once you make all the protocol rules for all the ports and publish them it will work. On ISA 2004, it's A LOT easier. Just create a server publishing rule, publish your Altigen server's IP, finish up the wizard with minimal input. Open the rule once finished, goto the "Traffic" page. Click "New" and the following port ranges: 10025-20026 TCP Inbound 10028 TCP Inbound 10032 TCP Inbound 1718-1720 TCP Inbound 1718-1720 UDP Receive 30000-30001 TCP Inbound 30000-30001 UDP Receive 49151-49214 TCP Inbound (This is the one that sucks to create on ISA 2K) 49151-49214 UDP Receive (Ditto) Also check on the H.323 Application Filter and you should be just about ready to go. Set your Altigen server's gateway address (in ip properties) to the firewall IP so that your Altigen server will be a SecureNAT client. Otherwise you will have to do a lot more work to get the outbound to work. This is a nice way to just "blanket" the outbound. The Altigen IP 600 manual shows you that a range of TCP and UDP ports starting with 49152 have to be opened depending on how many Triton VoIP boards are installed. The deal is that you have to have 62 TCP and UDP ports open per board, so that means if you have one board you use 49151 - 49214. If you had two boards, then it would be approximately 49151 - 49276. Smile, you finally found a way to do VoIP on ISA Server :) I'm still working on a way to do IPTalk, haven't found it quite yet but just started looking. What really stunk was that the first time I typed this message my session had timed out and I had to start it all over again!!! Uggg!!!! Couldn't even back up to recover the text.

Ok - for IPTalk to work over VPN you have to REMOVE the H.323 filter. Altigen VoIP is not compatible with the ISA H.323 filter at all and traffic will be intercepted by this filter if used. Also, you will get SYN PACKET DROPPED errors in the logging. Otherwise it works great over VPN and no port's need to be opened since it's working over VPN. I worked this out with a Microsoft ISA Support case.

It's possible that you may not need the H.323 filter when using the hardware based Altigen VoIP phone. Try it without checking that on first.
