Tom, was nice to meet you at TechEd... although the Cabana's were loud and hard to hear (as we all know).

We have often heard of ISA users trying to open up specific ports for applications, etc. It would be nice if ISA had an 'execute script' feature where you could load a script and have ISA open up the proper ports. For example, we have all seen responses to 'How can I run Xbox Live through ISA server?'... well, providing an XBOX Live Connector script and running that with some sort of ISA 'execute' method, it would make life easier. Obviously we would want to see a 'preview' window before the changes are made to ensure nothing abnormal is going to be applied perhaps from malicious users. I believe this feature would be quite useful.

Hi Andrew,

It was great to meet you too! I wish I had more time to spend on my presentations and hanging out at the Cabana. I think they will make sure that the acoustics are better next year [Big Grin]

One thing we've been thinking about doing is keeping a library of access rules for common applications. You can easily export them and import them to any ISA 2004 firewall.

Is this what you were thinking of?

Thanks!
Tom

Tom, that is exactly what I was thinking! I'm looking forward to having those access rules available for the community.

My only comment would be that we would want to ensure those access rules are coming from reputable resources or reviewed by some expertise before they are made available. I would hate to see malicious rules imported to an unexpected junior ISA administrator.

Hi Andrew,

Agreed. I would review them by installing them in my test lab, and then I would also review the XML. That's one of the nice things about the ISA backup feature now, is that you can review the settings in the human readable XML file [Big Grin]

Thanks!
Tom

This is a great idea guys. It would be a great resource once people start migrating to ISA 2004. Maybe Tom could create a new library section on isaserver.org? It could include sections for other contributions as well, like application filters.

Hi Senad,

You bet! I hope that we'll be able to get this out by the time the product goes RTM.

HTH,
Tom
