Hi,

anyone seen this behaviour before:

Setup
------
- ISA 2004 SP2 member of domain domain1.net
- XP Prof. SP2 member of domain domain2.net
- no (trust) relationship between both domains
- automatic discovery configured in DNS only (no DHCP)
- all rules on ISA require authentication (integrated or basic)

The client receives all ip settings through DHCP, including WINS servers and Connection-specific DNS Suffix.
Netbios over TCP/IP on the client is enabled.

When the client makes connection to an external site, no login box is shown.
Wpad is not resolved and you get the page 'page cannot be displayed'.

Taking some traces shows following process:
1. client request wpad via dhcp (no result - normal, dhcp option 252 is not configured)
2. client request wpad via dns (no result - normal, clients tries to resolve first wpad.domain2.net)
3. client request wpad via netbios lookup (no result - normal, domain2.net cannot be contacted)
4. client request wpad via dns (successfull, resolving wpad.domain1.net to internal interface isa)
5. client request wpad via netbios lookup in domain1

Step 5 doesn't succeed because no entry in the WINS is configured for wpad.
So wpad resolves succesfull via dns, but is never picked up (no http requests).
Instead, the client does another wpad lookup, now via netbios.
Why ??? He already got a succesfull resolving of wpad via dns!

Manually adding a wpad mapping to your WINS database resolves this.

You do not have this behaviour when the client is member of a workgroup or when netbios is disabled (or no WINS servers are active on your network).

well... I do have the same problem... and I have no WINS servers in the network but clients from other domains (like domain2.net in your case) may have manually set WINS servers....
