Hi,
Description:
--------------
I have a problem with opening some pages. I noticed that the pages not opening have something to do with HTTPS, e.g. hotmail and gmail, and whever we have a page that requires new registration or sign in. Even on experts-echange.com, and when trying to finalize this question, I could complete it to the end. Hotmail/Gmail home page opens, but after trying to sign in, i get a blank page. This problem occured suddenly. These sites open normally on the isa server.

Our Setup:
------------
I have ISA 2004, IIS, multiple servers (DCs, exchange). ISA is being used as firewall only, not as a web proxy (Clients don't specify a proxy address).

Details:
---------
In the live connection log, I receive the error "0x80074e24 FWX_E_CONNECTION_KILLED" when trying to complete the sign in. Also I receive 0x8007420 FWX_E_GRACEFUL_SHUTDOWN.

In the event viewer and in ISA monitor, I get the follwing:
"Event ID: 14148. The Web Proxy filter failed to bind its socket to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (ISA IP address) port 8080. This may have been caused by another service that is already using the same port or by a network adapter that is not functional. To resolve this issue, restart the Microsoft Firewall service. The error code specified in the data area of the event properties indicates the cause of the failure."

I have restarted the ISA server mutiple times, but no success.
Recently, I noticed that clients having Vista don't have this issue. Who has XP, he will have the problem

Try configuring the clients to use the autoconfiguration script.

Also, configure the clients to use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections.

HTH,
Tom

Do you keep getting the Web Proxy filter binding error?

If so, there might be a problem with the switch or the UPS it's connected to.

HTH,
Tom

Yes I keep getting this error

I have no UPS connected to it.

What do you mean with having a problem with the switch?

Hi Tarek,

I don't think it's related to IIS because it's port 8080. Since he has no UPS, it's likely that the power is going out periodically on his switch.

Hi Tom,

it might be related to the switch power, but he does has IIS on his ISA Server, and its better to uninstall it : http://forums.microsoft.com/ForeFront/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2257295&SiteID=41

Hi Tarek,

Yes, I definitely agree that IIS needs to be off the firewall!

Hi all, I use IIS as front-end e-mail server. It routes e-mals to the exchange server in the LAN. My infrastructure was working fine. The problem suddenly happens. This means it is not related to IIS and ISA living in one box together.

Running the SMTP service on the ISA Firewall is fine. Running the WWW is not good. Remove the WWW service and give it a try.
