After 3 days of trying, googling, reading etc. I decided I would ask the specialists ;-)

We want to bypass our local ISA server (unihomed, only used as Web Proxy) to connect to our mailboxes in our remote datacenter over RPC/HTTPS.

We use WPAD with DHCP for the client configuration and we specified multiple hosts and domains in the "directly access" tab in the "Web Browser" configuration on the ISA server.

Internet Explorer does exactly what it's supposed to do; it uses the proxy for all http(s) traffic except for the exceptions we specify in the "directly access" tab.

But it seems that Outlook (2003) doesn't care about those exceptions. It will always connect via the ISA web proxy instead of doing a direct connection to our datacenter. The URL for our rpc/https proxy is rpc.lar.lu. I tried all possible combinations in the "directly access" tab (*.lar.lu/*, rpc.lar.lu, rpc.lar.lu*...) but Outlook just doesn't seem to care :-(

Is this "by design" or should Outlook also take a look at the WPAD exceptions (direct access)?

A million thanks for any pointers!

Tom
