I have 1,200 machines on my K-12 campus and either through group policies under Windows or through Workgroup Manager on the Mac, I can push down proxy settings to web browsers so for machines we control, all works well.

I want to open up a guest side to my wireless network so anybody with a wireless laptop can:
- Come on campus and join our guest wireless network just like a hot spot at an airport or coffee shop
- Launch their web browser and get internet access

The problem is the only way to make this work is to have Windows users check "Automatically detect settings" or Mac users to type in the Auto proxy configuration URL.

I have a captive portal setup so when a guest launches a browser they are taken to a page that I can display anything including a detailed explanation about how to configure the proxy properly to gain access. I am looking for a more elegant solution.

All of my guest access is coming from one VLAN

Any suggestions?

Hi,

If you are using WI/FI, configure the WI/FI AP's as an ISA SecureNAT client. (Set the GW to the ISA’s Internal NIC) Being VLAN segmented and depending on your internal network routing configuration you can add another NIC to the ISA server and define the guest WI/FI network in ISA. Then all you will need to do is configure an access rule to permit traffic for the guest unauthenticated SecureNAT traffic. There is a nice ISA add-on the allows you to display a TOS  page. -> http://www.collectivesoftware.com/Products/#WebTOS
