Hi

simple question publishing a Citix server behind ISA as mentioned in the tutorial requires the following :

1. Packet filtering rule
2. protocol definition
3. server publishing rule

my question is that why do i need a packet filtering rule since the server can be published by server publishing rule only.

any idea

Hi Yasser,

you are very right! You don't need to create that packet filter. The publishing rule will take care of that dynamically.

Thanks Stefaan for answering

here is what i noted the performance of the server publishing rule + packet filter is higher compared with the server publishing alone.

I used to work only with server publishing rule but when i created the packet filter it increased the performance.

Hi Yasser,

I can't believe that! I never heard that from Tom, Jim or any other ISA guru. Moreover, as far as I know it is not mentioned in any public documentation from Microsoft such as http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/prodtech/ISA/ISAPrfBP.asp , http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;293640 or webcast.

Hi Stefaan,

There should be no difference at all, since the packet filter is ignored when a publishing rule is in place (the publishing rule creates its own packet filter)
