In common with many others our post SBS2000 upgrade to SBS2003/ISA2004 prevents ftp access to our external web site. It's not the FTP read only issue.

I've now spent 6 weeks trying to unpick the problem and have had to set up a laptop outside the firewall to get stuff published. All very irksome especially as Microsoft in India can't help, athough they are good at shipping patches that turn out to be incompatible with SBS, and then following up with lengthy QOS market research.

Is there anyone out there who can construct a step-by-step approach to sorting this out? Judging by items on the forums this happens all the time and the advice is always something archane about FTP serving, which we are not doing. We just want to drill a hole through the firewall so that two client PCs can upload sites that we supply to hosting houses.

Any offers! Nice challenge for you?

Ken

KenBee,
On the FTP Outbound Access Rule, not only do you have to make sure the 'Read Only' checkbox is unchecked (on the rule, Right-Click|Configure FTP|Read-Only, uncheck this box), but in the Properties window, in the 'From' tab, make sure that Internal is also part of the pool of users allowed to FTP.

Quick question on this issue, Is this Dreamweaver MX or 8 they both have settings that are differnet from the normal FTP systems, Have you tried a different FTP program? Or can you give me an idea has to how the Dreamweaver FTP is setup?

Akchas,

We are using MX 2004 at present. Set to use Passive FTP - use firewall setting unchecked at present.

Here is what I had to do to get mine setup, I set the server mode to nothing check in the passive firewall or secure, I did set my firewall setting to the http// Serverneame: 8080 everything else was what the ftp server site needed IE port Etc.
I then set the ftp array on the server to allow any and always. I tried this a a couple of times always setting ISA rule first but could get it to work, I could get to  login and watch it just reject it. Then went at it backwards setting the users PC first then the server, maybe the time was the issue for the refresh of the array but now Dreamweaver on that workstation can connect to the host, there is an artical on the Macromedia site about MX and 8 doing funning things depending on the firewall or proxy, and it seems that each install is different on the dreamweaver side.

This is what worked for me I hope it helps

Chas
