Hi

I would like to hear from somebody, that have experience with large http / https publishing solutions.

I have previously created multible solution using both ISA2004 and 2006.
This new request I have been given, is somewhat different.

A customer is looking to place an array of ISA servers in front of a web server farm consisting of 10 high performing webservers.
He would like to use the new Webfarm functionality in ISA 2006 as a loadbalacing solution.
He needs to support up to 10.000 concurrent connections, where approx. 90 % will be http requests and 10 % will be https requests.

The ISA servers will be new powerful servers, and will be running ISA NLB.

I am having a little bit of a problem finding performace info on a dedicated webpublishing solution.

From private calculations using proprietary algorithms done at the Shinder Labs [TM], each ISA Firewall in the array can handle 2000 SSL connections and 37589 HTTP connections.

YMMV.

HTH,
Tom

Have you seen the capacity planner?

http://www.microsoft.com/isaserver/capacityplanner.swf

I would start with this as a basic guide and then use the ISA2k6 performance paper http://www.microsoft.com/technet/isa/2006/perf_bp.mspx to monitor performance and then scale out the array as necessary.

I would imagine two well spec'd servers would be a good starting point or maybe three if you want to be able to still cope with peak load in the event of a single server failure (e.g. an n+1 model).

Cheers

JJ

Hi

I think I will start off with two server, and go from there.

I had not seen the capacity planner before. It will be most useful i future designs.

Thank you both for your replies.
