Error is "The VPN configuration could not be completed because the IPsec pre-shared key defined for the server could not be written. The IPsec services may be unavailable."

As far as I can tell, everything on the VPN is working. I can connect from outside using IPsec no problem. Just a bug maybe?

Hi R,

I haven't seen that bug, but it could be.

Are you sure you're using L2TP/IPSec?

Thanks!
Tom

I'd have to look again to see what method I ended up with to get a linux client to connect. I do remember setting a preshared ascii key on both the linux client and the ISA server. Haven't seen the error come back for a while now though. Since everything's working, guess I'm not going to worry about it. Thanks.

Did you ever get to the bottom of this?

My ISA 2006 server is showing the same error, but this is also coupled with IPSec clients (PSK) not being able to connect.

As far as I can tell this has only started happening since in place upgrade from ISA 2004.

Forget it….I had forgotten I had blindly run through the security wizard the other day and locked it down.   Once I undid the changes my IPsec clients can connect to the VPN.

Next time I will run the security wizard before I start drinking beer!

Oh and before anyone gets too worried this was in my home lab -  not at my work!
