I am having some sporadic performance issues that I am certain are related to my WAN or upstream ISP so I thought I would setup a few connectivity verifiers. I was planning to show the results to our WAN group as evidence of my performance problems but some of the alerts are bogus.

On every boot, I get a string of alerts that I think are just a timing issue. Can anyone confirm this for me? I think the verifiers are starting up too soon.

Also, it seems to me that when I am apply some changes to the rules and /or configs, I get another string of alerts. Anyone else notice that?

Then there are the 14065 errors.
quote:
One or more of the actions associated with alert Service shutdown has failed, due to configuration settings. The mail server may be down, or the specified command may not exist. Check the Event Viewer for related errors and fix them accordingly
Now, I know for a fact that I did not setup email alerts nor did I specify any program to run.

Speaking of setting up email alerts... I was having one of those days "[Frown]"
I know I have told others on this board to make sure their AntiVirus isn't blocking port 25 but yet I struggled with it for half an hour before realizing it. I knew I had the system policy set right and I even tested with telnet. It was only after testing with telnet on my laptop that I remembered the AV port 25 blocking.

Oh, about those 14065 errors... I was getting the odd one or two before I setup email alerts but now that I have setup email alerts I get a whole lot of them. My guess is that the very thing that is causing the connectivity verifiers to alert are now also causing the 14065 errors since the same WAN I am monitoring needs to be traversed for the SMTP server. Is that what you would call a catch22?

Another of my topics turning into a blog... [Frown]

So, am I snookered? Is there a way to store and forward SMTP alerts? Would an SMTP relay help?
