Hi

As steam is now going to be the only way to play CD does anyone have details of how to get it to work with ISA?

I found the following port info;

UDP 1200
UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive
TCP 27030 to 27039 inclusive

Problem I'm have is that i don't know for sure how to use this info with isa, what should the relevant protocol rules and defenitions look like.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just downloaded "Steam" the other night, but I haven't had a chance to play around with it yet. Knowing the port numbers you supplied is a good start. I'll see what I can do over the next couple of nights.

I am having problems running a Steam Server.
I have no problems running the client, but my server is no longer responsive to Internet clients.

It was in CS version 1.5.

Search the mb for an article in regards to mutliple clients on the same net, it has something to do with port mapping.

|||||I found a solution for the problem!
The following ports must be "open":
UDP 1200 (in-out <=>)
UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive (in-out <=>)
TCP 27030 to 27039 inclusive (in-out)
On your protocol definition; an now make that:

==>Create 3 "Application Settings" to the Firewall Client properties of your ISA managment console and make like that:

-----------------------------------

|1_rules|app: steam / key: RemoteBindUdpPorts / value: 27000-27015

|2_rules|app: steam / key: RemoteBindTcpPorts / value: 27030-27039

|3_rules|app: steam / key: ServerBindTcpPorts / value: 1200,27030-27039,27000-27015

do not forget to apply the "mspclnt.ini" of your client with the "update now" case !
--------------------------

YAhOOOoOOO ! and STEAM Counter-Strike v1.6 work nice ! Now you can make a big ===HS===> at you office !

What do you mean by (in-out <=>)?? UDP ports have SEND, RECEIVE, SEND RECEIVE and RECEIVE SEND. TCP ports have just INBOUND and OUTBOUND. I tried a combination of things and it did not work. Which item has to be the primary connection? Can you be a little more specific? Thanks. [Wink]

Ok,
Finaly my solution did not work /sorry Cgrace1970 / (too many test in the same time = this false the result).
But i have an other good solution [Smile] it conssist to create 4 "protocol definition" and no rules for the "Application Settings" of the FireWall Client properties.

-------------------------------------------

Rule 1:
General Tab
Name = ServerList Server Port Half life
Parameters Tab
Port Number = 27010
Protocol Type = UDP
Direction = Send and receive

-----------------------------------

Rule 2:
General Tab
Name = Steam connexion
Parameters Tab
Port Number = 27030
Protocol Type = TCP
Direction = Out
Secondary Connexion
Port range = 27000-27100, TCP, outbound

---------------------------------------

Rule 3:
General Tab
Name = Main HalfLife Port
Parameters Tab
Port Number = 27015
Protocol Type = UDP
Direction = Send and Receive
Secondary Connexion
Port range = 27000-27100, UDP, Send and Receive

-----------------------------------------------

Rule 4:
General Tab
Name = Steam friends
Parameters Tab
Port Number = 1200
Protocol Type = UDP
Direction = Send and Receive

--------------------------------------------

It work very well for me, i configure the port range 27000 to 27100 for the maximum of connexion on difTrent server.
I hope my explanation was more specific [Wink]

YAhOOOoooOO !

Thank you stams! Your rules worked for me, but the steam client keeps hanging when it tries to update. After several reboots it will complete. I think it might be something to do with the proxy, but I'm not sure. Also, for the last 2 days the game servers list has been completely empty. Did you do anything else besides those rules? (like force no proxy, etc?)
I'm very new to ISA, so I need all the help I can get.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info. I'm still having problems logging on, but the download function seems to be working now. At least that's a step in the right direction. I checked my logs, but there doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary there, so I don't know why I can't log on.

I figured out why I am not getting the servers lists, but I dont know how to fix it.
I have 20 computers using the firewall client, going through the ISA server. They can all get the servers list and join games if I do them 1 at a time. If more of one of them tries to refresh at the same time though, they lock up and wont work again until I restart steam.
I'm betting its a configuration thing I need to fix, but I'm new to ISA. Can anyone offer advice?

thanks

The issue with logging on to Steam seems to have corrected itself in the past couple of days. I know they've had some issues with starting this service up, but it appears to be working through my ISA server now and I have made no changes.

Does anyone here have problems with the server refresh on Steam ?

After 1 hour , my system advertises about 1000 servers

Could this be to do with ISAS

I am using ISAS on an ADSL/500/250 line which is stormingly fast for everything else.

Any comments gratefully recieved

Cheers

I am having a problem with steam also, but it is different from what has been stated.

I connect to steam fine.

I update fine.

It refreshes the servers fine.

But when I play; after about 5 minutes I get disconnected and need to close and reopen steam to reconnect.

Any ideas?

Hello Cid

Can you tell me how your server refresh behaves?

a, Does it freeze ?

b, Does it refresh every time you open steam

c, How many servers do you get

d, How long does it take to get to the end off the refresh cycle

e, Does the Steam client freeze/crash when refreshing, not allowing you to stop refresh ?

I must tell you that the disconnection issue is probably down to steam & valve bugs.

see

www.steampowered.com

thats the official steam site.

It also happened to me after I managed to get into a coupla games. I don't know how I even got that far !

cheers

Well I never refresh the servers. I have 4 servers in favorites that I play on.

But I did just try it.

At first it loaded 10k servers in about 40 seconds. Then I tried to refresh all, it hung up at 3500. I had to ctl+alt+del to get out of it.

So I guess there is an issue there, but I never noticed it due to only playing on my servers.
