Hello,

I am having great difficulty in getting a game using Directplay8 to connect from an internal PC using NAT through my ISA Server to a game hosted by a friend on the internet. I am using the Firewall client and have had no success at all.

I have created a DirectPlay protocol on the ISA Server using:

6073 Outbound TCP
2300-2400 Send Receive UDP
2300-2400 Receive Send UDP

I have configured the application settings for the Firewall client to:

[gamename]
ServerBindTcpPorts=6073
RemoteBindUdpPorts=2300-2400
KillOldSession=1

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong or provide me with step by step instructions on how to do this? Thanks.

If you find a solution, please post it on this board. I've been trying to get Dungeon Siege to run from behind ISA.

Well that happens to be the game I'm trying to get to work as well. I spent 3 hours trying to get it to work, no luck. I know I am connecting to my friend's game because it finds the game and asks me for the password for the game. But then it just sits there saying connecting. My logs don't indicate that I blocked any packets coming from his machine. I'm not sure what the deal is.

Try this:

PRIMARY CONNECTION
6073 UDP SEND

SECONDARY CONNECTIONS
0 UDP RECEIVE
2302-2400 UDP SEND RECEIVE

Jaime thank you for responding, I have tried your suggestion and I still get the same symptoms. I created the protocol rule as you said, are there any additional protocol rules which I should try or application settings I should put in for the Firewall client? Thanks.

Also, I'm not sure what tools I can use that are available in Win2k server to provide more insightful diagnostic information. If there is anything I can provide via one of the tools provided in Win2k let me know. Thanks.

I got it to work! Using the protocol definition you gave me Jaime I was able to get it to work but only by turning the Firewall Client OFF on my client machine. Can you tell me why this isn't working? I checked the mspclnt.ini to make sure there was nothing pertaining to dungeonsiege... Weird!

I assume you are trying to get internet play to work. My friends aren't around, so I can't test that part of DS's connectivity until later. My problem is with ZoneMatch. I can join ZoneMatch games from my ISA server itself if I open up some packet filters; I can't do the same from my client. I've tried various protocol defitions and mspclnt.ini settings (such as those mentioned in this thread), without success. My logs say no interesting traffic is being blocked. Anyone have any ideas?

Curious.

ZoneMatch works if I connect to the system with the firewall client running. Once I connect, I have to disable the firewall client to join or play in games.

I still can't get it to work either. Those ports I gave you were the ones for DirectPlay8 which DungeonSiege uses.

Try making a primary connection for UDP 2300. That seems to be the port that ZoneMatch for DungeonSiege is using. Let me know how it goes. I'll try it as well.

Yup, make a new protocol definition with the primary port is 2300 UDP and thats it. This will enable the ZoneMatch portion of DungeonSiege to work. I still can't join games though even if I disable the proxy client. I'll let you know if I find anything.

I can use ZoneMatch without a hitch, as long as the firewall client is disabled. Here's what I have for protocol definitions:

Dungeon Siege (UDP 2300)
port 2300, udp, send receive

Dungeon Siege (UDP 6073)
port 6073, udp, send receive
port 0, udp, receive
port 2302-2400, udp, send receive

My thanks to you two, JamieP and Zifnab.

So with the firewall client disabled, you are able to connect to the DS Zonematch servers and join a game and play without any problems?!

You don't have an "All" rule thats enabled or anything? I don't understand why this is working for you. Usually you need the firewall client enabled or it won't make any use of any of the "secondary" ports in your rule. Thats what I've experienced anyways. Any more details about your setup would be appreciated. I can't get it to work. heh. <pouts loudly>

I have a protocol rule that allows all IP traffic from my configured clients and a S&C rule that allows only external destinations from configured clients. I have various packet filters to support Exchange 2000 and IIS from the ISA server itself.

Without the firewall client enabled, I can jump from the desktop into DungeonSiege, call up a ZoneMatch, and play online.

My newest problem:

I'm trying to make a "dedicated" DS server by running DS on my ISA server itself. Everything works fine as long as only one player is connected (either from an external client or from an internal client). The second player gets dropped after about 10 seconds. ISA doesn't appear to be blocking any interesting traffic.

I would just wait until they get some of the multiplayer issues taken care of.
