I am trying to publish my FTP server to the web from behind TMG. I created the publishing rule and access rule to allow both in and out bound traffic. I keep running into a problem that I have pulled my hair out trying to solve to no avail. I cannot identify if TMG is causing the problem or something else.

I am connecting externally into the machine that has TMG and Serv-U 10 on it. Serv-U 10 is set to use my internal NIC IP for inbound traffic. My external NIC is connected to my router, which has a static IP. There is nothing wrong with the configurations, because my web publishing rules and other access rules work perfectly.

Only when trying to access my FTP, I keep noticing that the port that Serv-U is generating is not the same as the one the FTP client is generating. For example, Serv-U uses ports from 10000 and higher. Whereas the FTP client is using 1023 to 1200 at most. I get into passive mode and the moment the FTP client sends a MLSD command to the server, I get Response:
500 Invalid PORT command.
Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing

I have been dealing with this for 3 days. I noticed that setting Serv-U to listen on the internal NIC IP on port 21 works perfectly. I had to add the external NIC IP to passive under serv-U. When I did that I started getting some automatic ports. Prior to including the passive IP, I was facing a different issue where the client would respond: Cannot connect to unroutable IP address.

Has anyone experienced this issue or has an idea of what is going on? I know there is a NATP translation issue here, but I cannot narrow it down. Any help will be highly appreciated. Thank you.
