We just installed ISA Server 2006 and also installed the ISA FW client from the ISA 2006 CD. The ISA FW seperates resources in one VLAN from another VLAN. After changing my rule from All Users to Authenticated Users or a Windows AD User group I am unable to access the specified resource. I can switch back to All users and it works again. The ISA Server is member of the domain where the user accounts are located Checking out the log files show me all the connections going through the ISA server but in the column for Client Username I do not see any user names. It seems like for som reason that the FW client is unable to pass the users credentials to the firewall service on the ISA server. I have been trying to get this working for over a day, even reinstalled the ISA server and the client with no success. Any help on this is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Andy

Hi Andy,

The ISA Firewall doesn't have a concept of VLANs, which are layer 2 concepts.

Are you using the term "VLAN" to connote "network ID" or "network segment"?

Tom

Hi Tom

Sorry, I guess I should have said "seperates resources in one network segment from another segment". I have found in the meantime that the application we were using (a Microsoft Management Console, mmc.exe), seems to not pass any user information to the firewall service on the ISA server. I tried the Remote Desktop Connection application, mstsc.exe and I could see the client user name in the ISA server firewall log and user authentication does work as expected when using this application. Unfortunately I want to pass the mmc apps through the firewall and need to find a solution for this. Would you happen to know how I could go about this? Maybe I need to set a few application settings in the FW client settings to get this working but what key and value should be used?!?!

Andy
