Hello,

We are having an issue whereby Microsoft ISA firewall service is not starting on our server. We have a windows server 2003 machine with all of the updates installed on it running as our web proxy server. Internet connectivity on the server itself is fine for both NIC cards installed. The data communications however, is not 2 way. No other computer on our network can connect to or even ping the server. Below is a list of the event viewer errors and the error recieved when attempting to start the service.

1) The Microsoft Firewall was unable to open ADO connection. The MSDE Error description is: Invalid connection string attribute, [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.. For more information about this event, see ISA Server Help.
            We don�t use sql server to store logs persay.

2) Firewall Service failed to initialize.

3) Failed to stop the fwsrv during Execution of alert actions. Use the source location 118.316.4.0.2165.594 to report the failure. The computer should be restarted.

4) One or more of the actions associated with alert Log failure has failed, due to configuration settings. The mail server may be down, or the specified command may not exist. Check the Event Viewer for related errors and fix them accordingly.
            We don�t use our proxy server as a mail or mail exchange server.

The Microsoft Firewall service terminated with service-specific error 212994 (0x34002).
            This was the error when we tried to start the firewall service.

I am going to continue to search the internet for solutions to these issues and any help that this community can provide would be great.

Hi Armando,

Since it's a dedicated firewall, just reformat and reinstall.
