Hi,

Currently running ISA 2004 SP1 on a Windows 2003 SP1 server. Everything has been running smoothly, until about 2 weeks ago, when the Firewall services randomly stopped starting correctly on some reboots. SP1 for ISA and Windows 2003 was installed about a month ago.

Here are the errors I am getting when the services dont start correctly.

Event ID: 21192 Microsoft Firewall
The Microsoft Firewall was unable to connect to MSDE database. The MSDE Error description is: Could not find database ID 265. Database may not be activated yet or may be in transition., Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done., Property value is invalid. Make sure the value is typed correctly..

Event ID: 14001 Microsoft Firewall
Firewall Service failed to initialize. Previous event log entries might help determine the proper action.

Event ID: 7024 Service Control Manager
The Microsoft Firewall service terminated with service-specific error 212994 (0x34002).

I have checked the settings as described in http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q300215, however this ISA Server is using MSDE, not SQL.

Any information would be appreciated.

Crap! We're going live with this ISA server tonight, and now I'm gettting this error too! :(

Is the ISA Server wide open now that the fw service is stopped?

Got the same problem.
Windows 2003 SP2
ISA Server 2004 4.0.2167.887
Syrf Control Web Filter for ISA 5

Can Surf Control cose that problem?
