Firewall client information pursisting after uninstall - 28.Dec.2007 1:58:53 PM

Background:

I have a Windows XP client that used to be joined to a domain that used the firewall client to proxy all requests through the ISA server.  The server name was "isaproxy" that it used to use.  This was deployed via automatic configuration and DHCP.  I then removed the client from the domain and joined a workgroup, uninstalled the firewall client, the client is now connected to a new network that does not use ISA.  I have a program that I wrote that is running on the client that connects to a web service over the internet to "domain.com"

Problem:

The program connecting to the web service is throwing exceptions saying that the remote host could not be resolved "isaproxy"

Other Useful Information:
  1. Note that the firewall client has already been uninstalled
  2. I checked my IE settings already and everything is unchecked
  3. I searched the registry and there are no references to "isaproxy" anymore
  4. I checked all .config files on the machine for hardcoded references to "isaproxy" and they did not exist
  5. The client can successfully ping the internet from the command prompt
  6. The client can connect to a website and the web service via IE
  7. The EXACT program is installed on another machine in the same network as the client which does not come up with this error (which validates that this is not a code issue even though I do not reference "isaproxy" anywhere)
  8. These symptoms and steps were reproducted on another Windows XP machine of a friend that has a similar scenario (he only used the firewall client previously and not the domain part) that was not apart of any of my networks.  The same program on his machine keeps saying the remote host could not be resolved "some_other_random_proxy_server_name"

So I know for a fact that this has something to do with some residual firewall client settings that I don't know where and how they got set since this is happening on 2 different Windows XP machines that were not related network wise but had previously the firewall client. on different not related networks.

Thanks

Try to find the tool called LSPFix

LSP = Layered Service Provider,...which is what the FWC software is.

Run the tool to clean up the Windows LSP config.

I don't have any links to the tool or even remember who makes it (maybe MS?).  There are probably other similar tools by other names out there on the Internet as well.
