Hi,

I just got HL2 and installed. However, when it came time to start Steam, it just sits there saying Updating 0% for about a min and then disappears.

I have looked everywhere (including these forums) and configured everything (i.e. ports, rules and FW client) in the suggested ways (and unsuggested ways) all to no avail).

I have done some packet sniffing and found that there does seem to be traffic that is making it out of my network, however the responses donÆt make it back to the client.

For example:
source: 192.168.1.1:37015 dest:{valve_server_ip}:50000
source: source:{valve_server_ip}:50000 dest: 192.168.1.1:37015

CanÆt remember the exact ports but that is the gist of it (I think). I have tried everything I can think of and nothing changes. I always get the same result.

This is my setup:

ISP=ADSL Modem={ext eth= SBS 2003 (ISA 2000)=int eth}=LAN

IÆm willing to try anything at this point.

Okay. I've done some more investigation.
When I run steam and do a netstat -ano, I get the following:

TCP 192.168.1.252:1397 69.28.151.178:27038 SYN_SENT 3968

And it just stays there. I'm guessing that my client is sending the request out but the ack is not finding it's way back. Or its being blocked by the firewall. So after about a minute, steam just gives up.

I did some sniffing again and found that the packets are being sent but I'm not seeing anything returned. I'm using ethereal to do the sniffing on the external interface. But I'm not sure if what I am seeing is pre or post firewall (i.e. any dodgy packets have been dropped before I can seet them in ethereal.)

In ISA server 2k4 every rule you make has to be a crossed rule:

Internal -> External
External -> Internal

Set this in the from and to windows

Also it seems that steam is sending correct, but it is using your local network ip adress. so it send every packet back to the server, wich doesn't know what to do with it.
Dou you have a DNS server in your network?

I have not had any issues with gaming through ISA 2004. I use a rule on my local network that allows all traffic from internal to external and a FW client.

Setting up a server is another issue though.
