I have an ISA2004 server that is co-located with IIS so it can hand out the wpad file. I have applied the fix that allows you to do this without having a conflict on port 8080. The problem is ISA2004 uses a wpad file it creates and holds in memory.

How do I get ISA2004 to serve out the wpad file I placed in wwwroot and no the one held in its memory?

Thanks in advance for your help.

A. Disable the auto-config option on ISA
B. Confirm that IIS is listening on port 80, not 8080. WPAD delivers wpad.dat on port 80. Proxy listens on 8080.

I'm assuming you mean auto-discovery, which I have disabled. I also set IIS to listen on port 80. When I type http://10.0.0.182:80/wpad.dat in my browser I get
"The Page cannot be found". My wpad.dat file is in the c:\inetpub\wwwroot directory.

I can't believe this should be this hard???

Yes, sorry, Auto Discovery.

Are you monitoring the traffic in ISA when you try to download the WPAD.DAT file?
Do you have appropriate rules or policies enabled to allow accessing port 80 from the internal network?
What happens if you put a simple test.htm page there - does it display?

I found one problem and corrected it. I had to add a MIME type for .dat files. I can't get any files to display from the wwwroot folder on my test machine's browser. What type of rule do I need to allow clients to get port 80 access on the ISA server from the internal network? I tried a Web Publishing rule but that didn't work. I can't find anything that specifically allows client desktops access to port 80 on the ISA server.

Thanks again.
