Running Isa 2004 sp2. I have noticed since we installed sp2 a few months ago
that accessing certain sites fail, basically won't load the page in internet
explorer. One setting that appears to effect this behavior is the http 1.1
settings in internet explorer. If I select both settings (Use http 1.1 and
Use http 1.1 through proxy connections) the problem occurs. If I deselect
one or the other the web pages of the problematic sites load correctly.
Any thoughts?

Are the sites your having problems with setup in the Direct Access list or are they sites on the Internal side of you network?  If so, you'll want to review this posting.

All external sites with one being microsoft.com. I think it is an issue with http compression. It is very consistent. With http 1.1 and use http 1.1 through proxy connections on www.microsoft.com will not load. Turn either setting off or both off and it loads fine.

Already installed. Another forum has suggested the following patch:

In Interet Explorer, do you have "Show friendly HTTP Error messages" disabled?  If so what error is displayed in your browser?

If you monitor the traffic in ISA, what does ISA report?

It is enabled. No error message appear on the client at all - the web page just doesn't load. The Isa Logs show nothing beyond the attempt to access the specific url and the rule that allowed it.

I assume your client is a web proxy client, correct?  Does the access rule that's supposed to engage this request require user authentication?  If so have you tried to create a rule for this scnenario, that allows all users?

Yes the browser is configured as a web proxy client. My rules do require authentication. And yes I have tried anonymous rules with both a securnat client and web proxy client - results are the same. The only thing that changes the behavior at the client is by unchecking one of the http 1.1 settings within ie. This tells me it is an http compression issue with Isa.

The issue is caused by the http compression feature in sp2. If I disable compression or if I don't enable compression for images the issue resolves.
