We have Altigen IP 600 phones and an AltiWare server from Altigen. We have problems getting this to work with ISA 2000 on a W2003 Standard Edition machine. First of all do I need the run gatekeeper service. I can't just forward the 1720 port to the phone server? When using our IP phones externally, should I use the external IP address that I have assigned to the phone server (Altigen) or should I use the external address of the ISA server? The Altigen phones comes with a gatekeeper software, but we are not really sure if I need this to connect to the ISA Server gatekeeper. We are all very confused and I appreciate any help. I read the NetMeeting and ISA Server configuration, although informative, it's not entirely relevant in our istuation using Altigen IP phones. Any insight would be helpful even if you are using Altigen IP phones.

I run IP600 phones also (I'm an Altigen dealer), although I don't run them through ISA. Can you tell me about your topology? Is the Altigen server multi-homed with a direct connection to the internet? What kind of internet connection, T1, DSL, etc? How many remote loacations use IP600's and are they behind NAT? I run IP600's from many remote locations from France and the USA to our main location in Florida. If you post some more info maybe I can Help.
Regards Dave

I too have tried setting up the ip 600 phones through isa. I disable the isa gatekeeper and server published all of the ports through to the unihomed altigen box behind the firewall. Here is my problem. the phone registers okay from outside and can recieve calls but when you try to place a call from outside the firewall it never connects. It is a problem with port 1720 as far as i can tell. In the firewall logs it shows a connect attempt but it never completes. I thought maybe I will try to run setup and uninstall the gatekeeper completely or maybe there is something wierd going on with the h.323 protocol that i do not know about. I have a pix 501 that I can use but I use isa a lot and would like to figure this out for potential clients. I just did start this today and havent spent that much time on it yet so i will keep you posted.

We are still having problems getting VOIP (ALTIGEN IP PHONES) working via an ISA Server. Our ISA server is a single server and not cluster. We have one T1 connection and one back up 256K connection that are load balanced using RainConnect server (both connections are being used at all times using dynamic NAT). The RainConnect configuration is though not really relevant and doesn't impact the ISA server configuration (only if I would want to loadbalance this H323 VOIP communication then it would matter). As far as remote locations, we are only trying to get it to work for two users working from home. I heard that some routers do not even support the H323 protocol, so not sure how I am going to be able to trouble shoot this. Is there any utility other than Telnet? What indicates that the problem is on the ISA server, is that I can't even make outside phone calls to our Altigen dealer who has an IP phone (using the IP address). I can get it to work Internally (making calls inside the office) without any problem, but I need to get to work externally. If anyone has experience with this or have any ideas, I would appreciate. If somebody has direct experience with ISA and Altigen VOIP, then we are willing to pay to get this problem solved.
We are running Altiware 4.6

I have not had specific experience with ISA server but I have successfully setup remote Alti-IP600 phones to an Altigen server with VoIP. A couple of things to note. You cannot use Port Address Translation at the client or server side. You must use static NATing at both sides and open the following ports: (I'm not sure if all of these are necessary on the client side.)
TCP 1720 UDP 1718-1719 Both TCP and UDP 49152-49771 TCP 10032 for Alitgen IP-600 phones
