I am trying to install ISA 2000 standard on a system that has Dual quad cores. I am prompted that ISA standard cannot be installed on a system with more than 4 processors. I was under the impression that most microsoft software looked at the physical processors and not how many cores there are. If anyone can shed some light on this for me I would really appreciate it.

Guess ISA 2000 is too old for the installer to consider multi-core

Why the heck are you deploying ISA2000 on hardware like this???

I didnt see anything in that document about ISA 2000. Is that basically telling me that ISA 2000 is too old to even be mentioned in that document? We are upgrading the ISA server at a location and the customer dosent want to buy new software if they dont have to. But its starting to look like they are going to have to.

No, the document just provides an overview on Microsoft's multi-core licensing ethos - e.g. they count physcial, not core.

I would imagine the installer for ISA2k just isn't able to distinguish multi-core. I seem to remember ISA2k4 has a similar issue that was fixed with a hotfix. Ah yes, fixed here: http://www.isaserver.org/IsaNews/2004sp1.html

I think ISA2k may just be too old for this...

wonder if its possible to set affinity on the installer so it only see's a single CPU?

I've come in a bit late on this thread so it's probably already resolved/worked around.
Been on 'hiatus' from ISAServer.org for a while so thought I'd make a 'triumphant' return...
