I've tried and tried to get an answer from MS over at the "Atlas" forums, but I've yet to get any actual answers back. I thought I'd try here and see if anyone is experiencing the same issue I am. Here's the rundown of the situation:

I'm using the January 2006 release of Microsoft's AJAX framework, codenamed "Atlas". You can examine it here: http://atlas.asp.net. I'm using their "Walkthrough: Creating a Basic ASP.NET 'Atlas' Web Application" example. The web server is a Windows Server 2003 box. The website is configured with a unique internal IP (10.1.1.105:80). We're publishing this server via ISA Server 2000 and a web publishing rule to an external URL (host.domain.com).

Now, to the problem. If I browse to the AJAX script on the network (http://10.1.1.105/script.aspx), it works just fine - no problems at all. But, if I browse to the external URL (http://host.domain.com/script.aspx), I get the infamous "Error: uncaught exception: Permission denied to call method XMLHttpRequest.open" in Firefox, and a simple "Permission denied" in IE. From the research I've done, this message means that I am breaking the rule of Same Origin security. This occurs when any part of the origin (the full URL and protocol) changes between the client and the server during the XMLHttpRequest. I loaded this exact same script onto another web server that uses SmoothWall as a router/firewall and there were no problems at all.

My fear is that ISA Server is mucking with the origin somehow, just enough to break the Same Origin rule. I hope someone here can possibly shed some light on this issue, and help to point out some possible places to look. I'm completely lost, and have been trying to resolve this for quite some time. I can't believe that I'm the only person in the world who's had problems with passing XMLHttpRequests through an ISA Server.

Thanks for any input!

Well, it's typical - I compose this entire email, THEN have a brainstorm and it seems to work.

So, never mind - and sorry for wasting your bandwidth.

Oh, and just in case someone else has this and has the same mental block as I did, it's the lovely "Send original host header..." checkbox on the Action tab of the Web Publishing Rule. Needs to be checked.
