Hello,

Seems that MS has plans to produce security appliances:

Hi Stefan,

You bet! The HP one is just a pre-install, nothing special. You could get the same thing by asking your wife to install ISA and bring the box to you when she's done [Smile]

The Network Engines and Celestix boxes will turn out to be very nice. The Net Engines box will have a Web interface for installation and configuration, and some nice add-on features.

Thanks!
Tom

Won't be getting an HP one if they would do as good a job as if my wife installed it! Scary thought that!

Hi Al,

LOL! Well, maybe they'll do a little better at installing. But, the result will be the same: all you get is a pre-install. The Network Engines and Celestix offerings are more true firewall appliances, with Web interfaces and lots of cool firewall add-ons.

Thanks!
Tom

Is there any way to guesstimate an availability date for the new appliances, especially the NetEngines one? I have a budget approval for an ISA 2004 install, and I think I would rather have the appliance than build my own server. Any thoughts on the pros and cons of each device?

Hi Tad,

I think you're find a nice selection in less then three months. If you can wait that long, I think you'll really like what you see, and have a choice month several OEMs.

HTH,
Tom

Hello,

I see that Rimapp has their ROADBlock appliance out, and also that NetApp has a great appliance out. Any particulars that you can mention that would sway me to purchase one over the other? Anyone else out there have either of these units and want to talk about them?
