I just got started with ISA 2006. I was very excited about the new LDAP authentication feature.
Finally i thought you can use ISA 2006 in a workgroup but still have all the nice features, like authenticating against Active directory.
So i installed ISA 2006 on a Windows 2003 machine in a workgroup.
I configured the LDAP settings in ISA 2006
Then i created a global group in my active directory which contains users that are allowed to go on the internet.
Finally i created a firewall rule to allow HTTP, i removed the all users from users tab and added the LDAP authentication.
When i pressed Ok i got a error message saying that LDAP Authentication is not possible for this kind of access.
When this is true i am VERY DISAPPOINTED about ISA 2006. I think you can only use LDAP Authentication from outside to inside. But how on earth am i going to authenticate users from inside to outside. It seams to me that Microsoft did it again and released a product with again not all the features you want, beause if this is throug then the only use of the ISA server in a workgroup will be if it is a Front end firewall. This is nice for all those companies who only need 1 ISA server.

Please let somebody say that i am doing something wrong

Hi Aad,

LDAP for only inbound connections.

The ISA Firewall should be a domain member anyhow!!!
