Hi, I want to use ISA 2004 for load balancing a number of Softgrid servers. Softgrid streams applications using the RTSP protocol over port 554. The Softgrid documentation says: Creating a highly available SoftGrid Server When defining high availability, just remember that SoftGrid acts most like a Web server or any other Web service. Inother words, when determining your high availability solution, treat SoftGrid like a Web server. In our experience, both Windows Load Balancing and third party hardware load balancers fit the bill. In either case, you build multiple, identical SoftGrid Servers, and then load balance TCP ports 80, 554, and 8080. The clients then reference a DNS namethat resolves to the load-balanced IP address. My question is : Will ISA 2004 be able to load balance requests from clients on our lan to a number of Softgrid servers (like a web farm)? I know this can be done with web servers using HTTP, but can it be done with streaming traffic? Thank you, Greetings Dé, Holland

Hi, We’re struggling by getting access to a two-server Softgrid farm over ISA Server 2006. We tried to configure the web(farm) publishing rule by setting the HTTP port both on the rule and on the web listener to port 554, but the ISA server denies connection with the following error: Failed connection attempt, HTTP status code 13. We also disabled the Web Proxy filter on the HTTP protocol, but no success. This is our configuration: Unihomed (single nic) ISA Server 2006 enterprise edition. In DNS a record for the public name of the softgrid webfarm is created with the IP address of the ISA Server. One Webfarm publishing rule with the following properties: · Allow rule from anywhere to the softgrid farm · Webfarm Load balancing mechanism : Source IP based · Original host header is forwarded instead of the internal site name · Proxy request to the published farm members come from the ISA Server · Authentication Delegation is configured for No Delegation, but clients may authenticate directly · Link translation is turned off · HTTP requests are redirected to HTTP port 554 · No use of SSL · The rule applies to all users · The root path including all underlying paths are allowed /* (External same as internal) · Internal and public name are identical to sc0001.<customer name>.nl Softgrid Farm properties: · Two members are added to the softgrid farm · Connectivity verification relies on Ping requests Web listener properties · Networks selected: Internal · Connections are enabled for HTTP on port 554 · No certificates or SSL · Authentication is configured for No authentication In addition a web publishing rule is created for the same webfarm with a corresponding listener on port 80. However, we do not see connection request on port 80 to the ISA Server. We also created access rules to ports 137,138,139,444 to the Softgrid farm members, as described in Microsoft article 932017 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/932017 Regards, Dé, Holland

Single NIC "hork mode" configs have limited utility and zero security, so I can't comment much on that setup, as I never use it. Tom
