We run an intranet website using IBM Portal Server running on IBM Websphere Application Server.  I have published this site and can access it through ISA.

The first page of the intranet asks for username and password.  Those credentials are passed to a Domino server for authentication via LDAP (to the Domino directory).  This all works fine and I can access my intranet site.

We have a hyperlink on the intranet to the Lotus iMail site which is the Notes webmail application. Internally, the intranet credentials are captured and passed over to the Domino server again and then we are presented with our webmail mailbox.

Through ISA, when I click the hyperlink I am prompted for username and password in a web form.  We will normally see this web form when our Domino apps have not received correct credentials.  I am assuming that the original credentials entered when we first hit the intranet page are lost when redirected to the iNotes app.  Again, it works internally but seems to be lost as we redirect and re-enter through ISA.

If I enter the credentials for iNotes into the web form, it works fine and I am presented with my Notes webmail mailbox and it all works correctly.  So, I can successfully access the iNotes web pages and application through ISA.

We would like to avoid multiple authentications as we go from one application to the next that rely on Domino or Notes for authentication.  I do not find much information about people using Notes, much less Portal Server or Websphere, behind ISA.  I would appreciate any thoughts anyone might have on this that might help us successfully use ISA in front of our Notes apps.

Thanks!

Have you tried using a single sign on domain? Are all servers part of the same domain?

Yes, I am already using Single Sign On and that is working.  The issue is when the applications perform their own non-Active Directory authentication by performing an LDAP lookup against the Domino directory.  Perhaps this is a session-specific transaction and when we redirect to another URL that session info gets lost?

Also, the main mail server is Domino on AS/400.  But this all works fine from a PC on the LAN.

Thanks for any other thoughts or ideas!

Hi Mike,

OK, I get it now. Since the ISA firewall isn't managing the authentication for those connections, they'll be seen as separate sessions.

HTH,
Tom
