Is it possible to make a rule using MAC address? I need one device (a router) to connect to our ISP using DHCP to obtain an IP, so need a rule for that device only to go through ISA and obtain DHCP IP from ISP rather than internal DHCP server. Thanks

What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

1. Just flat impossible. The device cannot get an IP# that does not belong to the IP Segment that the device exists on. 2. If the "router" needs an IP# from the ISP,...then you have it on the wrong side of the ISA. If the ISA is a single nic cache-only ISA, then the ISA is not even relevant and the communication is not going through the ISA to begin with.

Phil, I was going to say that but wanted to give him the benefit to possibly explain the situation to better offer a solution. Dave

Question was mainly for my ISP, they wanted me to configure a router a certain way, I told them couldn't, the fight was on. I just wanted some ammunition, and to make double sure of the answer before I went back to them. I told them wouldn't work, but they insisted it would. I wanted to setup a test computer instead of the router that way, just to prove/disprove. Ended up, after escalating the call with ISP's tech support, that we finally got things worked out. (a bit of bull-headedness on both our parts). Thanks.

In many cases the "first level" tech support for ISP's just "doesn't have a clue" and they only understand things in terms of "home users" and the way things would be setup in grandma's house. What they call a "router" is not a real router, but is nothing but a "low dollar" NAT Firewall. This would not be a LAN Router on the Internal side of the ISA as would be common in a commercial environment. Unless you have a back-to-back DMZ the ISA would be the "router" as they are seeing it. If you have a back-to-back DMZ then the [so called] "router" would be external tot he ISA and the ISA would be irrelevant to the whole matter.
