Whilst on the topic of useless posts, I may as well toss mine in also. IMHO, the quality of the answer matches the quality of the question.

Heh - I'm with LLigetfa (although i think his signature quote is about the lamest, most daft thing I've seen on the internet) - don't expect anyone to spend more time on their response to you than the time you spend on your question.
To buck that general truth about newsgroup postings, I have used this script to dump out the contents of the Firewall and WebProxy databases and it works fine.
Are you having problems? If so, what are those problems? If you're not having problems, what was the intent of your original post? [ August 04, 2005, 05:11 PM: Message edited by: ClintD ]

using this "tool" on a SBS2003 server violates the EULA, here is the extract:
h. Data Storage. The Server Software contains portions that use the data storage technology known as Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine ("MSDE"). All copies and instances of MSDE contained in or installed by those portions of the Server Software, excluding the SQL Redistributables, may be used only by those portions of the Server Software. Any such copy or instance of MSDE may not be accessed or used for any other purpose. For example, applications may not be created or run on the Server Software if they access or use the services or functionality of any copy or instance of MSDE contained in or installed by those portions of the Software. In addition, any MSDE network library files that are disabled at the time you first install the Server Software may not be re-enabled.
Man that sucks so hard it bleeds...

Ummm...how, exactly, does it violate that portion of the EULA? I'd really like to hear this...

In fact, merely PASTING the contents of the MSDEtoText.vbs file into Notepad open on a SBS2003 violates the EULA, as you're not even allowed to "create" the application, or have it located on the server.

Is this your own interpretation, or are you reading this from some site? [ August 08, 2005, 09:48 PM: Message edited by: ClintD ]

"applications may not be created or run on the Server if they access or use the services or functionality of any copy or instance of MSDE"
Seems quite plain to me. I guess you could just run it on a PC elsewhere and connect to the MSDE via the network. Too bad they also forbid you enabling any network capabilities in the MSDE, but fortunately LPC seems enabled by default, even if TCP/IP insn't.
No other website, this is the first time this has been spoken about on the internet. [ August 09, 2005, 03:43 AM: Message edited by: MRIS ]

A script is not an application. It is merely calling functions in CSCRIPT.EXE and WSCRIPT.EXE. [ August 09, 2005, 08:58 AM: Message edited by: ClintD ]

I guess you could also UNINSTALL the MSDE instances, (which I gather is fully allowed) then simply install your own MSDE instance, configured identically as the one you've uninstalled. So you're replacing the MSDE instances with an identical item. Seeing that the server component didn't install these replacement instances, the clause doesn't apply and you're free to do whatever you want with them. (people that write EULAs should all be sent to Guantanamo IMHO)
