Dear All,

When configuring ISA to act as a VPN terminator there is a question on one of the dialogs about the maximum number of VPN clients allowed. It is the dialog where you tick the box to enable VPN client access. I wonder if anyone could explain what that actually means? Is it the total number of clients or the number per server?

I have an array with 2 servers. The VPN is configured with 4 class C addresses shared between these 2 servers. That gives a total of 1024 addresses but the maximum number will be a litte less than this. However, when I try various numbers greater than or equal to 512 it tells me that there are not enough IP addresses for this number of clients but that is clearly wrong since there are roughly 1024 addresses and I am only configuring 512 clients. However, if I set it to 511 it works. This leads me to believe that it could be the number of addresses divided by the number of servers minus a little for each server. If that is the case then it is profligate with addresses. For example, suppose the service was heavily used and we needed to add a couple of servers. That would give increased performance but now the maximum number of clients would be around 256 and 8 servers would support roughly 128 clients. This doesn't sound very likely to me.

An alternative would be that the text actually means the maximum number of clients per server although it certainly doesn't say that but perhaps there is a typing error in the text. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
