I am doing some ISA testing etc and I  was just trying to work something out. I have just installed ISA 2004 and i'm going through the setup. I have the following configuration:

1 cable modem (giving out ip address's) NAT

1 x DC (which is the isa server also) 2 x nics

1 x client

1. When ISA asks for internal address's, i'm a little cofused. My cable modem is  giving out 'a private' address for internet access eg (192.168.0.2) This is the second NIC in my ISA server, I refer to this as my 'external' network. i.e (i have 2 nics in the Isa server, one that get's it's ip from the cable modem, and one that is for my internal network (ip address 10.x.x.x)am i correct?

2. The other thing that i was wondering about is what happens if you run a NAT behind a NAT (i mean my cable modem NAT's to my isa server, and then I NAT from the ISA server to my internal network, i imagine that this is a standard thing considering that i can only get access from my cable modem via NAT)

when someone get's a chance, i would love to hear what others do. (or just some clarification on this topic/subject)

thanks in advance for any help
zyn

p.s i have read alot about isa but never really had any hands on experience with it.

Your cable modem is giving the address range 192.168.... because the modems address is in that range therefore the dhcp will be the same(192.168....)
Use your DC as your dhcp server it will make life easier for you.

Running nat on your modem and also isa will work just fine. Another thing you can do is use a dmz from your cable modem to your isa and have isa do the NAT.
