I have a separate Exchange Server 2003 box behind my ISA Server 2004 RC firewall. I do not have Message Screener installed on the ISA Server, instead I have it installed on the Exchange Server. I have the SMTP virtual server on the ISA Server setup to relay all messages to the Exchange server (remote domain). Email flow works fine.

I have run configured SMTPCred.exe on the Exchange server and it reported there were no config errors. All is good so far. Right? wrong...

When I have Message Screener enabled (place a tick mark in the check box for ôEnable support for Message Screenerö) email flows and the Message Screener logs show that all messages PASS and none of the Message Screener rules apply (primarily keyword rules).

When I remove the tick mark from the box ôEnable support for Message Screenerö email does not flow and the Message Screener logs shows that all messages are set to HOLD with ôPolicy rule stamp could not be found in the message; taking default actionö

Exactly the opposite, from what I'd expect, is occuring. What am I missing?

Hi Tomed,

I haven't tried it on the Exchange Server yet, because it breaks the RBL feature of Exchange 2003.

Try putting it on the ISA box itself according the instructions I provided over at www.msexchange.org.
