Hello,
I am hoping someone has figured out a reliable way to accomplish this task. We have a 3 node ISA2004 install using integrated NLB. I want to monitor accessibility for each of our hosted protocols for each node. I am currently monitoring VIP's but that only verifies functionality for the node that our monitoring traffic happens to be traversing. The question is how can I get my monitoring traffic to go through a particular node from the WAN side?

Why: Every so often a customer will call complaining about this or that protocol is not working i.e. HTTP is working but POP3 is not working. We try to replicate from a remote office, but everything is working because our traffic is flowing through a different node. This demonstrates that the problem is at the node level. We can identify the offending node via session monitoring and cure it with a reboot.

If I could monitor each of the nodes individually then I might be able to detect the random issues that pop up per node.

I have tried

1. Attempted to bind individual node primary IP's to an existing rule. (1 VIP + 3 node IP)
Result was only 1 of 3 primary ip's respond.

2. Split these out into separate rules(3 rules each with 1 VIP and 1 node IP)
Result was only 1 of 3 primary ip's respond

3. Use new individual secondary ip's bound to each wall and separate rules.(3 rules each with 1 secondary IP)
Result was only 1 of 3 primary ip's respond

Can anyone shed some light on this subject? I thought it would be as simple as targeting the primary IP's but that does not appear to be the case.

Thanks for your comments
Ed
