I am trying to find technical details on Web farm publishing. I am curious to know what kind of load balancing is implemented. I assume that ISA assigns an HTTP session to one server or another and continues directing http to that server for the duration of the session? I assume It would be wishful thinking to think that ISA2006 does session load balancing? Eventually we want to get to a point where session data is abstracted so that a session can continue on any server, not jsut the one it was initiated on. And, on a second topic, I am wondering if ISA 06 can use the same Class C client affinity scheme as Windows NLB. This is of interest because of the AOL client proxy server issue, where http requests made by an AOL user are proxied by AOLs proxy "cluster", which means that during a single AOL user's HTTP session, http requests could come from multiple IP addresses. When client affinity is set to Class C, Windows NLB assigns clients of a particular class C subnet to one server or another for session continuity to get around this...basically all requests from a particular subnet are assigned to one server or another. Any light that can be shed is greatly appreciated.

Hi E, Yes, you can have session continued on any server. Check the Help file for the details. Affinity is an NLB issue. Web Farm load balancing doesn't require NLB on the ISA Firewall or the Web farm. However, you can use NLB on the ISA Firewall's external interface, but you must use single affinity in order to use the integrated NLB support for ISA EE. HTH, Tom
