It's time for me to start considering redundancy from the internal side. I'm not using my 2-server 2006 EE array as the gateway yet, but I'd like to. Furthermore, I'd like to eventually switch my publishing rules to make "requests appear as they come from the client" and do do that I need to think about bidirectional affinity. That said, a couple of questions come to mind... 1. Will I need a third adapter for intra-array communication or would it be better just to install the multicast patch? I already installed a 3rd nic when I was going by some of the old "best practices" rules, but then opted not to use it when most said this was no longer necessary and just complicated the setup. I'm using unicast for the external side since that is fairly simple for me to follow. Using multicast for clustering confuses me a little bit since it's a multicast mac but a unicast IP (anybody wanting to comment on this please do). In the internal case, maybe that doesn't matter since there's no router involved? 2. I have an NLB'd IIS cluster behind this ISA array. Any special considerations I need to make as far as affinity is concerned?

1. If your OS and ISA firewall software is fully up to date, there's no technical requirement for an intra-array NIC. However, if you decide that you want to use server-side CARP, then I recommend a dedicated intra-array NIC to handle the inter-server Web Proxy traffic. 2. None that I'm aware of other than making sure that you preserve the origianl client IP address in the publishing rule HTH, Tom
