Can anyone help me with this error. I'm new to this so be gentle please.
the error is: server publishing rule [ Terminal Server 2] that maps to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:3389 TCP to yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy: 3389 for protocol [RDP (terminal server) server] was unable to bind a socket for the server. The server publishing rule cannot be applied. The failure is due to error : 0x80070034
The xxx IP address is the internal address for the terminal server and the yyy IP address is the external card on the ISA 2004 server with SP1.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi denco,
what's the result of the command ' netstat -an | find ":3389" ' on the ISA server?
Maybe terminal services is already running in administrative mode on the ISA server and this service is bound to all available IP addresses. You can change that in Terminal Service Configuration, under the node connections select RDP-Tcp Properties and the tab Network Adapter. There you can choose to which adapters / IP addresses the service must bind.

Run the netstat and could not find :3389.
Is this significant?

Hi denco,
yes, it is important! We have to determine which process is already occupying the socket (that is the IP address + TCP/UDP port number) you want to server publish on.
I suggest you download the Firewall Kernel Mode Tool for ISA Server 2004 from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=f3306399-d4f9-4989-865e-c61f8293c330&displaylang=en and install it on the ISA server. Then run the command fwengmon /c and see if you find the port number 3389.

I get the excat same error message only with the mail server publishing rule. I am trying to get ISA to route mail to my domino server. It worked in ISA 2000.

One very strange thing is that I only get the error on start up and also the rull work fine afterward.
I have 3 TS rulls TS1 report no error and the other 2 TS rulls report the above error.
Very strange......
If any rulls report error(s) that rull should not work or should it?
Any Idears?

Has there been any update on this issue? We get the same
Server publishing rule [RULE NAME] that maps InternalIP:25 TCP to ExternalIP:25 for protocol [SMTP Server] was unable to bind a socket for the server. The server publishing rule cannot be applied.
It happens on startup only and mail is received by the mail server. We've been having some other quirky behavior on this ISA Server (we run about 10 of these) only, that is another rule is not being processed by ISA to allow in bound traffic. These errors are only happening on this one server and we're running SP1 (Server 2003 and ISA 2004) with the RPC hotfix.

finaly downloaded the Firewall Kernel Mode Tool you sugested and found the port 3389 on the external interface IP address.
Only got one external interface with 1 IP address and I'm trying to set 3 TS rules on that port. Is this OK or is this the reason for the error?

i had this error too for the RDP rule. i fixed it like that:
go to terminal server configuration and bind the terminal sessions to the INTERNAL networkcard only. use a server publishing rule to allow rdp to the isa directly and set as destination the internal ip of it. now you can define the other server publishing rules and bind them to the specific external ips you have. the error is gone.
