Hello Everyone,

Here is my scenario.

DSL Router - 192.168.10.1
ISA External ip - 192.168.10.201, 255.255.255.0, 192.168.10.1, DNS is service provider's dns ip
ISA Internal ip - 192.168.1.201, 255.255.255.0, gateway blank, DNS is my DC ip
Domain controller - 192.168.1.200

All clients in the range of 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254
All the clients have gateway 192.168.1.201 i.e. ISA internal ip address

In the ISA server the network rule is configured as follows
Internal to External - Relation is NAT

Firewall Policy Rule
Allow Internal to External Protocols POP3 POP3S SMTP SMTPS HTTP HTTPS etc.

ISA is in workgroup and all the clients are joined to the domain
All the clients can browse websites, connect to msn live messenger but,
Outlook doesn't work.
POP3 and SMTP request doesn't get resolve.
From the ISA server i am able to connect to POP3 and SMTP server, but from client it fails.

The first time I configured ISA and clients, pop3 and smtp was working
As the clients started increasing it stopped. Now its not working at all.

Any suggesstions.

Regards

never put a DNS on ur external NIC , check this Configuring ISA Server Interface Settings.

have u read this : Debunking the Myth that the ISA Firewall Should Not be a Domain Member

read the article and know why u have to join ur isa to the domain.

Hi, elmajdal

I went through the article and did the network settings as mentioned in the article.
As far as joining the isa server to domain is concern, do you think that the problem
which I am facing has anything to do with joining the isa server to domain?

I believe, whether the ISA server is in workgroup or domain, the pop3 and smtp protocols should work.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Regards,
Sameer
