Hello,

I have a Router/Gateway that sends traffic from a Dedicated IP to a 4 port switch on the back VIA NAT.

Public 77.x.x.x  --->  Private 10.1.10.1

My ISA server has 2 NICs. The External plugs into the switch and has IP of 10.1.10.116 static. Internal on ISA is NATed to 192.168.0.254 and serves as the internal gateway of my network that my servers and workstations including my WAP point to.

On the router I did a port forward (25) from Public to Private but for my switch on the router to even see the External NIC of my ISA server I had to create a computer object in ISA and had to open all traffic from the 10.1.10.116 to the localhost (External NIC 192.168.0.254).

On ISA I did a SMTP publishing rule pointing to my Exchange. If I dont do the rule between the switch and the External NIC then my port forward rule is useless because the switch wont see the ISA external NIC.

Hopefully that all made sense...My question is, is this correct??? I dont think opening all traffic on a firewall anywhere is ever a good idea but my other thought is, the router is only forwarding SMTP traffic anyway.

Thanks in advance.
