Hi all-

I was wondering how I could accomplish a standard port forwarding or port redirection for a standard service like RDP.

Scenario:
ISA Server 2006 shall redirect incoming requests for port 3380 to an internal IP address with port number 3389.

I already tried this by setting up a firewall rule and changing the ports but neither could I establish a connection successfully nor was a log entry made.

Any ideas, whitepapers, or help?

Cheers,

Holger

Hi Holger,

that's easily accomplished in ISA 2006. Start with a standard RDP Server server publishing rule. On the Traffic tab there is button Ports. There you can change the TCP ports used.

Hi Stefaan,

thanks for your quick reply.

I already did so  but the result was that the connection attempt has always timed out. Anything else that I should do?

Cheers,
Holger

Hi Holger,

is the published host configured as a SecureNAT client only? It should.
Also, what is the ISA live logging telling you?

Hi Stefaan,

yes that's right. The host (Win 2003) is configured to be just a "normal" client that accesses external resources over the ISA Server 2006.

And the live log doesn't even show the attemted connection...

If I replace the ISA with an "ordinary" packet filter port redirection works fine.

Cheers,
Holger

There should be an entry, good or bad!

What's the result of the command fwengmon /C | find ":3380"?
Any chance to take a NetMon trace on the ISA external interface?

In what shell should I run that command?

Hi Holger,

just open a command windows and run that command.

If it's not in the path, it might be in the directory "C:\Program Files\Microsoft ISA Server>". If you couldn't find it on the ISA box, download it from Firewall Kernel Mode Tool for ISA Server 2006.
