Prioritize SMTP traffic?

Status: offline 		We are running at the max on our current internet connection. To the point we are having trouble sending email. Until I can convince the powers at be to upgrade is there a way to prioritize the SMTP traffic over the internet traffic? I know I can prioritize url traffic, but I need to do protocol. If you know a way please let me know.
